Forum: GratefulDead Subject: One way or another, this darkness got to give

or not.

Please don't dominate the rap Jack
if you got nothing new to say
If you please don't back up the track
This train got to run today

It took only a week to start another world war on this forum. And now it's time to make things worse by analyzing and pointing fingers and apologizing and talking about why this isn't a board about the dead anymore.

Does that cover it?
No?

Yesterday's post showed that there is more to talk than the dead. It showed only that the board has room for other topics. Remember--no on can really define this place:

You can't overlook the lack Jack
of any other highway to ride
It's got no signs or dividing lines
and very few rules to guide

The post was meant to be humorous, but was not taken that way. There was certainly no context.

I recall around two months ago replying to a post by SDH in which I thought I was innocuously jousting with SDH, but the board didn't see it that way. Man, did I get flamed. Then the apologies, the analysis. Then the love fest.

You all read about that massacre at Va. Tech.? Now, put this latest Cream Puff War in context.

Once again: The wake of the flood.

You guys need to go out back and piss on a tree before you reply to a topic that pisses you off. Think it over. Is your post going to add fuel to an imaginary fire?

Reread the thread and the one above it. S-l-o-w-l-y. Read it again from the last post up to the first. Seems pretty silly, huh? Bet Andy Rooney never pissed you off so much before. Bet he never will again. But you all assumed that this was a good spot to clench your fists and have at it.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'm not one to tell someone else how to behave. In the end that is our own personal choice. But if you choose to fart in church, the congregation will take it as a foul smelling noise that detracts from the real purpose of being there. Not that Christ never farted.

Every time the board starts to get fun again . . . .
well, I've probably farted long enough.

Spent a little time on the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
I saw things getting out of hand
I guess they always will

Say . . . . has anyone heard this band called the Grateful Dead--an old sixties band that played for thirty years? Git any recommendations for a good record to listen to?

We are all, in a wierd sorta way, a Grateful Dead family right? So, if someone in "our family" has concerns, problems, worries, frustrations, the list goes on? Shouldn't we as a family stop (like the good Samaritan did), or should we ignore them. Is it wrong to shed "Just a Little Light" on the subject?

If nothing else, these detours from the Dead related content tends to show that we're a fairly diverse group. I think it's pretty cool that the general public has us pegged as a bunch of anarchists, when it appears in many ways we're fairly centrist and in many ways mainstream Americans.

It's unfortunate that in many quarters we find ourselves defending our fascination with the Dead...as if it was some kind of subversive undertaking. What's so hard about understanding that it's just great f__uking music, I ask ya, and never played the same way once.

simple to me. Don't muddle the GDForum with nonGD related subjects, use a different forum here.
So please don't dominate the rap jack...if you disagree with me (I'm being sarcastic)

And please don't dominate this forom with just GDForum posts. Share, instead of pushing everyone else down the tracks who may not even give a damn about the Grateful Dead. Lookie here >>

Lots of other forums...HERE. Aye?

wow, there are a lot of other forums! I honestly had no idea.

but seriously, this one is the only one in which a lot of people regularly read and post. In only a short time of existence, the GD board has topped all other forums in #of posts. Plus, we have a bit of a community established here, so naturally the posts will vary in topic just because of that.

I agree with both of you, jammin 'n dire.
Just pointing out the dozens of other forums here.
I've been as guilty as most when it comes to completly non GD related subjects on the forum that reads "Grateful Dead"
On a side note, I was way too harsh and judgemental on defining what a Christian is or is not, dire. I can only speak for myself with my big yap. In the end, the Good Lord will do all the defining & judging, not me, the Pope or Roger Rabbit

NOT ROGER RABBIT??????

oh man, that is huge news to me, I gotta sit down and sort out this spiritual crisis.

but seriously,

rasta, I wanted to point out that I appreciated what you said yesterday, something to the effect of "I'm not saying I'm Christian...only God knows my heart" or something like that. That was well said, and you kinda said it again here. That is such an important (and often forgotten) concept.

And Mere Christianity is an excellent book. I've actually not yet read it all the way through, but I've read almost all of it in sections at a time. I almost finished it a couple of years ago when I lost my copy. I'll have to get a new one some time soon.

Speaking of animation, I'd love to see the same folks who made the recent Lord of Rings trilogy, put out The Hobbit

I want to clarify my thoughts on this topic. All day long, I talk about really serious shit with people- taxes and laws and cases and judges and motions and pleadings and the goddamned Internal Revenue Code. Then, when I talk to my girlfriend or my parents or (some) friends, they want to talk either about the serious shit that they talked about at work, or about all the horrible shit that's going on in the world. So, when I come here, to the Grateful Dead Forum, i want and expect to talk about the GD, one of the few non-serious things I get to think about in the course of the day. Imagine my disappointment when I come on, after talking about all the stupid news stories of the day or thinking about how to get some tax-cheating bastard out of trouble with the Service, and I find post after post about kids in college getting shot, Black Sabbath, or Andy fucking Rooney.
I'm not trying to censor anyone. But I neither need nor want to talk about anything other than the GD with you people. I would have thought you all felt the same.

You've made my point, thank you- here is where I come to act childish. Work is where I go to play lawyer (and sometimes, it feels, psychologist).

Pat,
Are you a Lawyer? I think you hinted at that once or twice.

Whats wrong with people of common interest discussing things or circumstance outside that direct interest.

thanks, but it's not my birthday (though 4-20 should be a day of celebration for all). It's Iggy who is turning 60 manana - not I. I'm still a young man (a mere 43).

Hey Pat

I must confess I do believe the devil made me post the Black Sabbath thread. But really I put that up because that it was the vibe I felt needed to get out there at the moment.

Wait, I didn't post with Dio but I did mess up and put up a link for Iron Man instead of War Pigs.

I liked Dio with Sabbath but those first four albums by Sabbath blew me away even Technical Ecstasy & Never Say Die had their moments.

Dio was in a short scene in a really stupid movie "Pic of Destiny" probably one of the worst movies I have ever had the misfortune of seeing.

Hey ghost,

Going to bounce around a bit and try and hit on a couple of your recent posts.I picked up on the pattern you mention back in the late fall. Like clockwork really…The Flame - newbie! Not in MY house! Oh my, why I never! what about the children? Won’t someone please, please think about the little ones! (for what it’s worth, I have this vision of a confused toddler. Propped on daddy’s knee, cozying up to the soothing glow of the screen and pointing with their little head tilted like the RCA pooch, asking what does that word mean? please! spare me!). The soon to follow Apologies - come here ya big lug! It wasn’t really me. just got me at a bad moment. Finally - The Loooove Fest, We’ll call this the golden afterglow or the season of the cooing. You nailed it – we’s in the land of shoot first, edit later. I have often wondered how many folks this repeat behavior has kept from voicing in on the board? Truth be told -I really don’t see much of a difference between then and now… none really. Maybe, it’s just simply a six month cycle thing? Perhaps, when folks initially come across this site they morph it into an unrealistic, dreamy Shangri la, but I’m sure even heaven gets a little boring after a while. Could that be why on occasion some patrons seem to play cat and mouse (for no other reason than admitted self amusement) with newbies and kinda-regulars alike? Not sure what baseball player said it, but someone will see you perform for the first and the last time today. Meaning? There’s as much room on this forum for new contributers with their curiosity and top 10 lists as there is detailed breakdowns, reviews and cut and paste nonsense from our esteemed and loved regulars. Remember the one rule out here – no rules! Nothing should be taboo(except hate and that one break in protocol a while back)
anyway, that’s about all I got at the moment. Always enjoy your words and took no offence whatsoever with your infamous sdh goes south post.

ian
